The main differences are efficiency, self-locking ability, and output direction. Here is a simple guide:
1. S Series (Helical-Worm Gearbox)
Output direction: 90° right angle (input and output shafts are perpendicular).
Self-locking: Yes (when the reduction ratio is high enough). It can prevent reverse rotation – ideal for hoists or conveyors.
Efficiency: Lower (about 62% – 77%). More heat is generated.
Power range: Small to medium (0.12kW – 22kW).
Cost: Generally lower for small power applications.
2. R Series (Helical Gearbox)
Output direction: Coaxial (input and output shafts are in line).
Self-locking: No. You need an external brake if reverse rotation must be prevented.
Efficiency: High (about 85% – 96%). Runs cool and is good for continuous use.
Power range: Small to large (0.12kW – 160kW).
Cost: Higher for small power applications, but better value for high power.
